Who Am I?

Welcome to my world! My name is Keenan Tate, and I am delighted to have you here. As an Air Force veteran and a Locomotive Electrician, I have a diverse background that includes custom woodworking, mechanics, truck driving, and much more. My passion for learning and fixing things with my hands has allowed me to explore a wide range of skills, from electrical work to graphic design.

Though I am not certified in the medical or mental health fields, my knowledge comes from personal experiences, extensive research, and therapy. I have ADHD and have recently been diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety. Over the years, I have also battled depression. Through this blog, I will share some of my traumatic experiences and the lessons I've learned along the way.

Humor and laughter play a significant role in my life. I enjoy stand-up comedy, comedy movies, TV shows, and podcasts. I've always been known for my humor and smart-ass comments, often using them as a defense mechanism. Whether it's making others laugh during a video game streaming session or cracking jokes with friends, humor is my way of coping and connecting with others.

Having faced dark times myself, including a moment when I almost gave up, I understand the importance of not feeling alone. This blog is my way of reaching out to those who might be struggling, offering them a place where they can find laughter, inspiration, and a sense of community. I aim to be both a comedian and a helper, combining humor with support to make the journey towards mental wellness enjoyable and relatable.

My goal with MotivatedGiggles is to make people laugh, inspire them, and let them know they are not alone. I want this to be a safe space where we can openly discuss mental health issues and find ways to overcome them together. By sharing my personal struggles with PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression, I hope to provide insights, tips, and practical advice that can help others manage their own challenges. Remember, life can be tough, but laughter is a powerful tool. We can be serious when needed, but let's not forget to have fun and enjoy the journey.

My Struggles with Mental Health

Throughout my life, I have grappled with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD, each shaping my journey in profound ways. It's almost as if God or the universe just sprinkled a little bit of everything on me and said good luck. ADHD impacts me daily, making it difficult to focus and get things done, as my mind races with countless thoughts. Anxiety exacerbates this, leading to overthinking, which often triggers memories of traumatic times, and eventually, depression sets in. These conditions play off each other, creating an overwhelming and vicious cycle.

One particularly challenging episode involved narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a semi-truck. The close call triggered a PTSD/Anxiety episode. Initially, I didn't handle it well, focusing on escaping the situation by driving home in a damaged car. Once home, I calmed myself with a body scan meditation, which helped ground me.

These mental health challenges also affect my interactions with others. I often overthink what people think of me and isolate myself when overwhelmed or stressed. Therapy has been instrumental in helping me understand myself and others better. It provided a sense of relief when I was diagnosed with PTSD, giving me a starting point to work from. My therapist always reminds me, "You're not crazy, it's science."

Self-care practices such as meditation, breathing exercises, and being kind to myself have been crucial. Recognizing times when I'm neglecting self-care and using "opposite action" helps me manage my mental health better. These strategies, along with therapy, have provided tools to navigate the stormy waters of anxiety and depression.

Why I Created This Blog

Welcome to my world, where mental health and laughter coexist in a delicate balance. This blog was born out of a deep-seated desire to foster a supportive and safe space for those navigating the often tumultuous waters of mental health. Having been in those dark places and felt alone, I understand the importance of connection. A while back, I uploaded a TikTok video depicting conversations with oneself during tough times, which resonated with many people and highlighted the need for a platform like this.

One of my primary motivations for starting this blog is to create a place where people can share their thoughts and experiences without judgment. I want people to feel heard and understood and see that others have similar experiences. This blog aims to be a safe haven where readers can find comfort and strength, knowing they are not alone.

The importance of community in overcoming mental health challenges cannot be overstated. By discussing all mental health issues, especially those affecting blue-collar men and individuals who struggle to speak up, I hope to raise awareness and foster empathy. This blog aspires to be a place where readers can find solace, share their stories, and draw strength from the collective wisdom and experiences of others.

In addition to building a supportive community, I have several goals for this blog. I aim to raise awareness about mental health issues and provide valuable resources. This includes sharing coping strategies, books, websites, articles, podcasts, and places to find local or virtual care. By incorporating humor through jokes, funny stories, videos, memes, and recommendations for podcasts, movies, and shows, I hope to make the journey towards mental wellness both informative and enjoyable.

Ultimately, I hope this blog becomes a sanctuary for those seeking solace, support, and a reminder that they are not alone in their struggles. Together, we can navigate the complexities of mental health and find moments of joy and laughter along the way.

Finding Humor in the Darkest Moments

Navigating the labyrinth of mental health can often feel overwhelming and isolating, but humor has been an invaluable companion on my journey. Laughter, in its purest form, has a way of breaking through the densest fog of despair, offering a fleeting yet vital reprieve from the weight of the world. During some of my darkest moments, humor has not only been a coping mechanism but also a beacon of hope, guiding me towards resilience and recovery.

A few times, I have been in a dark place, and one of my friends would say a little one-liner or a saying that I often use to make people laugh, back to me. Those moments reminded me that even in tough times, humor can be a lifeline. Like most people, I scroll TikTok sometimes looking for a good laugh or look at memes. I try to think of jokes about situations I'm in to make either myself or others laugh. My favorite comedians include Theo Von and Kevin Hart. I also enjoy shows like "Tires" on Netflix and movies like "Step Brothers" and "Sex Drive"—anything that's stupid-funny.

Reading a good meme, seeing a funny video, hearing a joke, or watching a comedy movie/show that makes you laugh can bring you out of your own head and thoughts, allowing you to be present and relieve some, if not all, of those negative feelings. The therapeutic benefits of humor are well-documented. Laughter can reduce stress hormones, boost the immune system, and release endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. These physiological responses create a buffer against anxiety and depression, offering a temporary yet powerful lift in mood. Moreover, humor fosters social connections, helping to build a support network crucial for anyone facing mental health challenges.

I encourage readers to seek out these moments of joy and laughter, even during the most trying times. Laugh, make someone laugh, make yourself laugh—just laugh. Comedy and humor are everywhere. Make jokes about yourself or whatever situation you’re dealing with. You don't even have to share it with anyone, or if you do and they don't laugh, who cares? Even if you're the only one laughing at your own jokes, that's okay! Embracing humor doesn’t mean trivializing one’s struggles; rather, it’s about reclaiming a piece of joy in a landscape often dominated by pain. Through laughter, we can find strength, build resilience, and foster a sense of connection that is essential for mental well-being.

Creating a Safe and Inviting Community

Ensuring that MotivatedGiggles is a welcoming and safe space for everyone is a top priority. Building a supportive community begins with fostering an environment rooted in empathy, respect, and inclusivity. This means actively listening to each other's stories and experiences without judgment and offering support and understanding in return.

One of the foundational steps in creating such a space is to establish clear guidelines and principles. These guidelines are designed to promote positivity and respect among all members. For instance, hateful or discriminatory comments are strictly prohibited, and any form of harassment will not be tolerated. By setting these boundaries, we can ensure that everyone feels valued and safe.

Empathy is a cornerstone of our community. It allows us to connect on a deeper level, understanding the challenges and triumphs that each person faces. My own journey with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD has taught me the importance of empathy. Encouraging empathy means actively promoting a culture where individuals feel heard and understood. Respect goes hand-in-hand with empathy, as it involves acknowledging and valuing each person's unique perspective and experiences.

Inclusivity is another vital aspect of our community. We strive to create a space where everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences, feels welcome. This commitment to inclusivity means celebrating diversity and ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. It also involves being open to learning from each other and growing together as a community.

To further nurture this supportive environment, I invite readers to share their own stories and experiences. By doing so, we can learn from each other and build a network of mutual support and understanding. Sharing our journeys can be incredibly powerful, offering comfort and inspiration to others who may be facing similar challenges. Whether it's through personal anecdotes, humor, or practical advice, every contribution helps strengthen our community.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and included. By upholding these values and principles, we can build a positive and inviting space for all. If community members violate these guidelines, we'll address the situation with a focus on understanding and improvement, ensuring the space remains supportive for everyone.
